Getting copied Code to work in your HTML

By Layard Dunnett

Getting copied code to work in your HTML.

Ever copy some code from an Affiliate Site and not have it work properly when you pasted it into your HTML? I have... and it drove me nuts for awhile.

When I looked at the code on their page and the looked at the code that got pasted into my HTML Editor I discovered that there were additional characters in "my" copy of it.

The obvious, but time consuming, option was to carefully remove the extra code from my HTML.

I thought "there has to be an easier way"... and there is.

When you select a section of a Web Page to copy, and then copy it, you also copy to your clipboard characters that are not displayed but are necessary for the Web Page to be viewed. So, when your Affiliate Site says "place this code on your own Web Site" they mean place the code you actually SEE and not the hidden code that you get when you "copy and paste." The copy and paste method doesn't work in that instance and your resulting HTML won't display correctly.

But... instead of carefully entering each character of the code they provided into your HTML all you have to do is "copy" the code you want, open Notepad, or any "plain text" editor, paste the code into IT (the text editor), and then copy the code from the text editor to your clipboard. Then you can paste it directly into your own HTML and it will work correctly.

Hope this saves some folks some time.
